guihai steles forestguihai steles，forest was first established in 1963 and then changed into its current name the museum of guihai steles forest in 1984.it is a municipal museum of special subject in epigraphy，which engages in the reservation，research and exhibition of the ancient steles found in guilin. it is located at the dragon—hidden cave of which all the cliffs are dressed in steles with no space lent blank as commented. the ancient steles in guilin are accessible among the hills and avis，mostly engraved on the natural rock cliffs, and rooted in them，the fame of guilin landscape is the best under the heaven is been spread out over the whole china since the sui dynasty (the 9th ad).“as for the best collective place of the autograph steles of the tang and song dynasties，guilin is in the first place”. today，the storage of the natural cliff-carving tales of the song dynasty in guilin is the largest in china，there are over 2000 steles in the city already listed as national key reserved relics，which are under the protection and research of the museum. the museum itself hosts over 210 cliff-carving stels inside dated from the tang dynasty to the minguo dynasty. moreover，it collects and shows many excellent hand-made things，scattered ancient steles，aged stone carvings and memorial archways of the successive dynasties. all these fully show us the long history of the guilin stele culture and the refined chinese art. some famous steles are the rare treasures left by chinese ancient celebrities. studying them in depth will open an encyclopedia of the ancient guilin city on the rocks. whenever you step into the museum，you are personally in a cultural hall of china where you are enabled to talk with history.
