in longsheng there are numerous terraced fields, of which the terraced fields in longji village show a picture of great momentum and imposing beauty. they are distributed in longji village and ping'an village, 22.5 km from the county seat and 108 km from the city of guilin.
there are about 66 square kilometers terraced fields in southeast of longsheng, 22.5 km. from the town seat, of which the terraced fields in heping county show a picture of great momentum and imposing beauty, being reputed as "unrivalled in the world" and made one of the best 20 scenic spots in guangxi. 
dragon's backbone terrace was first built in the yuan dynasty and completed in the qing dynasty as the crystallization of the wisdom and labor of the zhuang people. the terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountaintop, with the highest place of an elevation of 885m and the lowest 380m. the coiling line spirals up from the mountain foot to the top, making the mountain looks like huge snail seen from afar.
longsheng hot spring, reputed as "a heaven of peace and happiness" and "paradise on earth," is the centerpiece of the national park. welling out from the rock cracks halfway up the mountain, the hot spring water is colorless, tasteless, pure and clear, 54-58 centigrade degree temperature, consisting of many trace elements, such as lithium, strontium, iron, manganese, zinc, copper, and etc. the water is good for drinking and bathing. besides, it has curative effects on pain in nerve, skin diseases, arthritis, and rheumatism, etc. as longsheng hot spring is situated in a deep and tranquil valley and surrounded by mountains of thickly growing trees, it is warm in winter and cool in summer. it is an agreeable resort for tourism, recuperation, health, relaxation and vacation.
another spot that attracts much attention from tourists is yanmen gorge rafting course located in the national park. roaring in between the breath-taking mountain ranges, the torrential currents make an ideal place for rafting throughout the course, which is a great experience, thrilling but not dangerous, challenging but amusing. over the yanmen canyon spans an iron-chain bridge, 120 m long, 1.5 m wide and with a suspension height of 90 m. standing on the bridge you may be excited to enjoy a distant view by ascending such a height.
the longyin (dragon hermitage) cave was originally called huixue. the present name was adopted during the song dynasty (1127-1279). it is located at the foot of the third highest peak of yueya mountain. to its west is the xiaodong river. the cave looks like a canopy and opens at the western and southern ends. some river water flows through the cave. a groove meandering along the whole length of the cave roof looks like the impression of a dragon. the reflection of the cave on water looks like a narrow gully in mountain. at the mouth of the western and southern ends bamboo and willow grow in luxuriant groves. there are many carvings inside the cave. the earliest is an inscription of a poem entitled "poems about azalea in the same rhyme" by zhang jun and liu songgui in a.d.894 during the tang dynasty. other early works include an inscription of di qing from the song dynasty and a stele inscription entitled "notes on five diseases" by mei zhi, also from the song dynasty.
