jiuzhaigou located in aba tibetan and qiang autonomous prefecture, about 450 km north of chengdu, the capital of sichuan province. it borders on qinghai, gansu, shaanxi, hubei, hunan, guizhou, and yunnan provinces, tibet and chongqing municipality. jiuzhaigou has a total area of 5290 sq km.

its superb and breathtaking landscapes are extremely attractive for series of narrow conic karst land forms, large number of lakes and spectacular waterfalls. a great number of endangered plant and animal species, including the giant panda, inhabit at the wonderland. the tibetan and qiang culture are also the local highlights there.

jiuzhaigou belongs high altitude karst land including calcareous tufa shoals, waterfalls, stepped lakes, high mountains and forests. it is cool temperate, damp and cold on the high mountain slopes and cool and dry in the valleys. average annual temperature is 7.2c. vibrant spring temperature ranges from 9c-18c; stable summer temperature of 19c - 22c fall temperature from 7c - 18c; winter temperature under zero. average annual temperature is 7.2c. most of annual rainfall of 660mm occurs from may to september.

the main mountain of jiuzhaigou is mt. minshan range, and the rivers baishuijiang (white water river).
